Who wants more? *raises hand*
As the three of us sat in the corridor of the record company offices, I watched the clock tick by slowly, each minute seemed like an hour and each hour seemed like an entire lifetime. Still no-one came to speak to us. "You don't think Fletch was playing some horrible trick on us when he said to come here do you?" I asked, keeping my eyes firmly on the clock. James laughed. "I doubt it, they were expecting us at reception so someone knows we're coming," he said, getting up off his seat and stretching his arms out. Just as he did so, a man came out of one of the offices and walked towards us. When he reached us, he smiled and shook each of our hands. "You must be Busted, come through," he said walking over to the door he had just come out and signalling for us to follow. "Sorry for keeping you waiting, I've been getting loads of phone calls and I had to sort them out first," he apologized as he sat down at his desk. We sat on the three chairs in front of him. "I'm Paul by the way," he looked down at a piece of paper on his desk infront of him then looked up at me. "So you must be Emma," I nodded "The baby of the band," he smiled. "So is that how you'd want to be marketed?" he asked, leaning back in his chair. I shrugged. "I dunno, I don't really think that age matters but if people wanted to look at me as 'the baby' then I suppose I'd be able to cope." "How do your parents feel about you dropping out of school to persue a music career?" "My mum's been really supportive. She knows that this is what I want so she's standing by me all the way." he nodded, accepting my answer. He looked down at his piece of paper again then looked up at Matt. "So you're the bassist," he commented, smiling. "Yep, that's me," Matt replied, givving him a cheeky grin. "And you're James," he commented as he pointed at James. James nodded but stayed silent. "Well I was going to ask you to play but I've heard your demo and I'm really impressed. You write all the stuff yourself I presume." James suddenly jumped into the conversation. "We all write bits yeah. Sometimes we write on our own, then sometimes we write as a group so you get everyone's different sounds coming out in one song." Clearly impressed, the guy carried on with the questions. "And you all live together, so you're all easily accessible." "Yeah, except for when Matt and Emma disappear off together and switch their mobiles off," I looked at Matt nervously. We hadn't really discussed what we were going to say about us being together, but we knew we had to be truthful. Paul looked at us confused. "You did know that Me and Emma were an item?" asked Matt, trying to look innocent, even when he knew full well that there was no way he could have possibly known. We'd told Fletch not to tell him. "No, I didn't. That sort of changes everything a bit." he said sadly. Something inside of me broke. "We'd prefer to market all of you as single. It means that your sales increase because girls go more crazy about acts when they think they have a chance with them. Relationships in bands don't work." I saw Matt starting to get angry. "But why not? It worked for those two in S Club 7 their fans were fine about it." he commented rather irately. "Yes but S Club 7 already had a fan base, You don't have a fanbase yet." "But surely it's better for the fans to warm to us and accept that we're an item" "It's not like that. If you market yourself like that then there would be no fans" Me and James stayed out of the arguement but Matt really got stuck in. "Well couldn't we pretend that we weren't an item just for the first couple of months," "Then the fans feel let down that you've lied to them. Plus, it's not fair on you to have to lie. If you told everyone that you were single then got caught by the media, you'd get completely slagged down and recieve really bad press," "Isn't it more about the music as opposed to who's going out with who?" I asked quietly. Paul turned to me and smiled sympathetically. "Well in the long run yes, but really you won't be able to make music if you don't have the fans to buy it," "Oh for fucks sake," shouted Matt angrily. He jumped up out of his seat and stormed to the door. "I'm not gonna sit here and listen to you telling me that I can't have a career AND a girlfriend when I know that it's complete and utter bullshit. We haven't signed any deal, so you have no right to sit here and dictate how our lives our gonna be. Fuck you asshole." With that final comment, Matt flung the door open and stormed out of the office. I put my head in my hands. I knew Matt felt really strongly about our relationship, but I never knew he'd do anything like that. When I finally uncovered my eyes, I looked up at Paul's shocked expression, and James' slightly amused one. "Look, guys. I'm so sorry about him. He didn't mean it. I'll go after him, talk to him about it." As I stood up, Paul stood up as well. He held his hand out and I shook it. "Like I said, I'm so sorry about him. He shouldn't have said any of that stuff, he was out of order," "No, don't apologize, I understand, I've had worse. All boys of that age find it hard to put love lives on hold while they establish a career. It was nice meeting you," I nodded gratefully and left the office. I walked down the corridor, looking in all of the open doors to see if I could find Matt. When I reached the lobby, I looked at the door of the mens. Instead of risking it and going in myself, I asked one of the male receptionists to do it for me. He emerged a couple of minutes later to tell me that Matt wasn't in there but he had seen a boy of Matt's description storm past about 5 minutes before. I thanked him and left the building. When I got outside, I saw Matt sitting at the bottom of the steps. I sighed and walked over to him. "So this is where you're hiding," I said as I sat down next to him. He wiped his eyes and looked at me. I could tell straightaway that he'd been crying. "What did you do that for?" I asked. "Because I wasn't gonna sit there and lose you." he sniffed. "You're not gonna lose me," I said, putting my arm around him. "Well I would have if I'd have just sat there and taken everything he said. He was practically telling us that if we wanted a career, we couldn't be together," "He had a point though," I sighed. Matt looked at me puzzled. "What do you mean?" "Well, maybe it wouldn't work, us being together in a band. What would happen if we split up. The whole band would have to split up." "We could stay friends, I'd make sure of it. Make it amicable" "Yeah well that would work until we got new girlfriends and boyfriends. Plus don't want to get bitchy comments from girls who fancy you and don't like the fact that I'm going out with you." "What, so is that it? Are you splitting up with me?" he asked sadly. "No! Matt I'm not splitting up with you, I just think that he had a point. And you were a bit harsh on him, Did you really need to call him an asshole!?" I asked smiling. Matt smiled as well. "I was only trying to get my point across," he paused. "So if we're not splitting up, then how are we going to get a record deal? I mean they're all going to say exactly the same thing." "We'll find a way, don't worry" I assured him. He looked at me and kissed me. "Well, if you say it's gonna work, then I trust you," Just then, James came stumbling out of the front door of the offices, a guitar case in each hand. "Guys, can I have a hand here?" he shouted sarcastically. I jumped up and went and took my guitar off of him. "Is he okay?" he asked me quietly. "Yeah, he's fine, just a bit peed off," James nodded. As we walked over, Matt stood up. "Look, Jay, I'm really sorry mate. I know that deal meant a lot to you and I've just fucked it all up," he apologized. "Matt, don't worry, it's not that big a deal. It actually provided some entertainment." he smirked. "So I guess we have to wait for another record company," "Maybe not. He gave me his card and told me to ring when we've sorted out our problems." James grinned. "Can we wait a little while until we see another record company? This one's totally worn me out," Matt asked, yawning. I smiled at him and kissed him again. "We'll wait as long as you want,"

When Fletch had found out what had happened in the meeting, he'd given Matt an earful, which had made Matt feel guilty and made him grumpy towards everyone, especially me and James. When he'd finally dragged himself out of his depression, he'd been really apologetic and really tried his best to make it up to us. He even whisked me away to Paris for my 17th birthday. He planned everything, the 5 star hotel, the first class flight, all partly meant as a birthday present, partly meant as an apology. It wasn't until the actual day of my birthday that I realised how to sort out the problem that we were having about getting a record deal. I decided to tell Matt my plan first, but I didn't want to ruin everything he'd planned for me, so I put my idea on hold. To celebrate, Matt took me out for dinner. As we walked back to the hotel afterwards, he apologized to me. "You know, I'm so sorry about the way I've been with you recently. I've been a totally loser" he commented remorsefully. I smiled at him. "Matt, don't worry about it. It really doesn't matter" I replied. "No, but I'm serious, you really should have just dumped me. I don't deserve you." "I stayed with you because I love you and I don't want anyone else." He smiled happily at that comment as he let us in the room. As he shut the door, I kicked my shoes off and took the jacket off that I was wearing over my black dress. I threw my bag down and sat on the end of the four poster bed. Matt took his blazer off and sat next to me. "Well, I'm glad to hear it because I love you too." he reached over and pulled something out of one of his jacket pockets. "I bought you this," he smiled as he handed me a black velvet box. I took it off of him and looked at him curiously. "Matt, you didn't have to buy me anything else!" I said as I opened the box. Inside was a charm bracelet . It had lots of little star charms and one big heart shaped one. On the heart was engraved 'I Love You, M xx' I gasped. Matt smiled at my reaction. "It's beautiful!" I shreiked. He took it out of the box and did it up around my right wrist. "It's white gold. James helped me choose it, It took forever to decide because I didn't know what you'd like. Then I remembered you saying something about hating yellow gold, but loving white gold," "I can't believe you remembered that, it was only a passing comment when we saw that girl dripping in gold chains. I didn't even think you'd heard me!" "Of course I heard you, I hear everything that you tell me," I kissed him and admired the bracelet. Inside, I knew that the happiness was going to be short lived. He'd hate me when I told him my idea. As Matt stood up, I took a deep breath. "Matt," I said simply as he walked into the bathroom. "Uh huh," he replied, with out looking at me. I took another deep breath and held my hands together to stop them from shaking. "I'm leaving the band," I stated simply. Matt's head shot around the bathroom door. "You're what?!" he shouted in disbelief. "Please, don't make me say it again, it was hard enough the first time," I whined. "Emma, why? Is it me? James? Fletch and Richard? What have we done?" he asked frantically, rushing over to sit next to me again. "It's none of you, it's me, It's something that I need to do, and it's something that you all need me to do." "How is it something that we need you to do?" he asked hysterically. I could see his eyes welling up. I knew that if he started crying, then I'd start crying aswell. "Honestly, that meeting the other day, it made me realise that it wasn't going to work," Matt looked up at me tearfully. "But you said we'd stay together, you promised me, how could you lie to me like that?" I suddenly felt tears running down my cheeks as well. "Matt, we are going to stay together, I'm just not going to be in the band, that's all," "Well, how can I be sure? How can I be sure that you won't just dump me after a week or two," "Matt.." he cut me short. "Please just stay in the band. That way I can be sure I'm going to keep you as my girlfriend," "I can't stay in the band," I stated firmly. "Well.......Well, Marry me then," he pleaded, grabbing my hand as he sobbed. "Matt, no, that won't do anything," I sobbed as well. "Oh great, so you don't want to marry me, is there even any point in us being together," he asked. "Matt, I do want to marry you, eventually, just not now. If I said yes, I can guarantee you'd wake up in the morning and regret proposing. You'd just doing it desparately. It's not what you really want." I replied. "Well, why are you leaving the band?" he asked, calming down slightly. "Because, you and me being together means that no-one is going to offer us a record deal. And that's not only us that that affects, it affects James aswell. We're holding him back and he doesn't deserve it. He's so talented and really needs a record deal. It's really selfish of us to stop him getting it." I explained. "Yeah, but he said that he was fine about the other day," "That's what he said because he knew you were upset. He didn't want to hurt your feelings by telling you that it had really peed him off that we hadn't got the deal." "Is this what he's told you?" "He didn't need to tell me. I could see it in his body language." Matt sighed and stood up. He stayed silent for a little while which worried me. "You're just one selfish bitch aren't you," he snarled, keeping his back to me. "What?" I asked, confused at his change of heart. "Just because this isn't going as planned, you're just gonna leave me and James and let us rot in hell aren't you," he shouted. I was scared, he'd never been like this before and I really didn't like it. "Matt, I have no idea what you're going on about," I mumbled. "You're just going to give up and leave me and James until we have no choice but to give up on our dreams. You're just being selfish and putting yourself first. You didn't stop to think what the consequences will be for me and James," he shouted louder this time. "Matt, I'm not leaving you and James to rot, If I leave, you can audition someone more suitable, a guy," I cried. "You're a liar!" he screamed, picking up a bottle of wine and throwing it at my head. Luckily, I ducked in time and the bottle hit the wall and smashed, leaving a wet trail down the wallpaper. I looked at him in disbelief, scared of what he'd do next. He walked towards me slowly, tears streaming down his face. I burst into fresh tears and ran into the bathroom, locking the door behind me. As I ran past, Matt tried to grab me. He looked as shocked as I did. As I sat on the bathroom floor sobbing, I could hear him, moving around outside. He knocked on the bathrom door lightly. "Emma, please come out, I didn't mean it," he sobbed. This just made me sob harder. "Emma?" he knocked again. I got up and went and sat on the toilet seat, looking out of the window at all of Paris, which was lit up by loads of street lights. "Just leave me alone," I called quietly. "No, I'm not leaving you alone until I know you're alright," he replied. "Like you care," I snorted. "I do care, I love you so much, I've never loved anyone like this before. I just overreacted and I shouldn't of. But it's because I love you that I did. I just don't want to lose you ever. And I know that's a really stupid thing to say, because after what just happened, I already have lost you and I deserve it as well. I just hope you realise that I love you. I always have done, and I always will do." I sighed. He always had this way of talking himself out of situations and tonight was no different. I slid off of the toilet seat and walked over to the door. I opened it cautiously to see Matt's now red eyes, looking back at me. I smiled weakly at him and fell into his arms, hugging him closely "I'm so sorry, I love you so much," he whispered in my ear softly. "I love you too," I replied tearfully. After tonight, I knew that me and Matt were going to be stronger as a couple.

So that was it really. When we got back to England, we told James first. He'd been shocked to begin with but had accepted my decision. The meeting I had to have with Fletch and Richard was the hardest. I'd had to go in on my own and explain my decision and give reasons. Luckily for me, they'd been really supportive as well and even offered to manage me if I ever wanted to go solo, which had flattered me. We soon set to work, finding my replacement. Matt and James had asked me to help and I'd agreed. We placed an ad in NME and hired an audition Room at Pineapple dance studios. This time the advert advertised for males only. On the day of the audition, we sat through hours of guys who wanted to be the next Gareth Gates and saw very few people who fitted the criteria of what we were looking for. One guy, Tom, had been the closest to what we wanted but someone had commented that they still didn't think he was right for the band, although I saw Fletch give him his number later on. At last a guy who looked slightly appropriate walked through the door nervously. Brown spiked hair, stupid trousers and massive eyebrows. Plus, he was really tall. He certainly stood out. He hooked his guitar over his head and stood infront of us. "Hi," he said quietly. I smiled at him. I'd been in his position and knew exactly how he must be feeling right now. "Hi," I replied, smiling. Matt nudged my arm and shot me a 'dont you dare start flirting' look. I rolled my eyes and turned back to the boy. "What's your name?" I asked, trying to be as friendly as possible. "Uh, Charlie Simpson," he stuttered nervously. "And how old are you?" "16" I smiled. Same age as I had been when I auditioned. "And what are you going to play?" "Um, Runaway Train," he replied. I nodded and he started. As he played and sang, something inside of me instantly struck. This guy, was, in a word, amazing. I looked at Matt and he had a contented look on his face. When I looked at James, he had pretty much the same sort of look, except his mouth had formed a little 'o' making him look completely gormless. As he finished, I smiled. James snapped out of his daze and looked at Fletch. "Um, thanks, that was really good. We'll ring you when we've made a decision," James said, almost lost for words. Charlie nodded and turned to leave the room. "Why did you audition?" asked Matt, as he reached the door. I looked at him and shook my head. Charlie turned back thoughtfully. "Because I love music, I wanna be in a band so I can play it all day everyday," he answered in his really deep voice. I smiled. Shit, why hadn't I thought of an answer like that when Matt had asked me all those months ago. Matt nodded and Charlie turned to the door again. "Don't call us, we'll call you," Matt shouted after him. I hit him in the ribs and shouted after Charlie. "He's only joking," Charlie smiled and left the room, leaving everyone a bit lost for words. "What did you go and say that for?" I demanded, turning to Matt. He grinned cheekily. "Well, It worked when I did it to you," I shook my head and turned to James. "Can we just tell everyone else to go home?" he asked smiling. "That is the guy I want in this band," he continued. I smiled at him as the door opened again and another Gareth wannabe walked through. "No can do James, We have to see all these lovely people first," James smiled back and rested his head on the desk. I think we all knew that we had just found the perfect replacement.
